Here’s what I started upon returning from January’s residency. In
keeping with my desire to share elements of the painting process with the
viewer, I’ve shown myself in the act. I’ve pulled back to show both the mirror
and the wall in hopes of highlighting the observational nature of this work; I’m
not just painting myself, I’m painting the reflection
of myself. It’s as much about the
process of doing a self-portrait and the act of looking at oneself in the
mirror as it is a statement about me or my likeness. Of course, as a painting, the work as a whole still bears an
autobiographical stamp.
