Been working on some new stuff along the Birch Log and Vessel series. Here's a study of a bit of rolled up birch bark that my Mom found while out on a walk. Missing everything but the log. 7" x 5". More stuff on my other website, matthewmeyerworks.com

Alright- been hard at work but I haven't taken the time to update my blog in quite awhile. I will endeavor to correct this issue!
Here's an earlier state. You can see my model, a birdhouse, perched in the upper left.
Here are some preliminary sketches.
Here's Threshold, the latest in my series treating perceptual painting's capacity to archive experience. These works have taken vessels of various sorts as their subject, literal and figurative containers for the time I spend with each object as I paint it from life. Oil on canvas, 40" x 32".
Here are some preliminary sketches.

Been working on it for the last couple months. Thought it might go quicker if I did a preliminary drawing to work some stuff out... Didn't quite work out that way. Here are some earlier states:

Started work on another piece in my series treating containers as literal and figurative vessels into which my time and attention are poured. This is the second to-go box. Other than their nice clean lines, I like how these containers speak to notions of transience and ephemera- two elements tightly bound up in the perceptual painting experience. The model is perched in the upper left.
